Eligibility for a Wife to Sponsor Her Husband

To sponsor your husband, you must be a UAE resident with a valid visa and meet the minimum salary requirement of AED 4,000 per month, or AED 3,000 with employer-provided accommodation.

💡

The old "AED 10,000 / must be a doctor or teacher" rule is outdated

Earlier, only women in certain professions could sponsor a husband, often at much higher salary levels. Following the 2019 and 2022 reforms, spouse sponsorship is assessed on salary and valid residency for both men and women. Note: immigration (GDRFA/ICP) may still request additional income proof or a supporting document in some cases, and requirements can vary by emirate.

Documents Required

Prepare these before starting. Attestation of the marriage certificate is the step that most often causes delays — begin it early.

The Process, Step by Step

Whether your husband is inside or outside the UAE changes only the first step. The rest is the same.

1

Confirm eligibility & attest documents

Check your salary and residency, and get the marriage certificate attested (home-country → UAE MOFA → Arabic translation). Start this early.

2

Apply for the entry permit (or status change)

If your husband is outside the UAE, apply for an entry permit. If he is already inside on a visit visa, apply for an in-country status change to avoid exit and re-entry.

3

Medical fitness test & insurance

Your husband completes the medical test at an approved centre, and a valid health insurance policy is arranged — mandatory before stamping.

4

Emirates ID & visa stamping

Complete Emirates ID biometrics, then the residence visa is issued digitally and linked to his passport and Emirates ID.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions women ask most about sponsoring a husband.

Can a wife sponsor her husband in the UAE?
Yes. A female resident with a valid UAE residence visa can sponsor her husband, provided she meets the salary threshold and the application clears the immigration authority's review.
What salary does a wife need?
A minimum of AED 4,000 per month, or AED 3,000 plus employer-provided accommodation. In some cases GDRFA or ICP may request additional income proof, and requirements can vary by emirate.
Is the old AED 10,000 / specific-profession rule still valid?
No. Those restrictions were removed under the 2019 and 2022 reforms. Spouse sponsorship is now based on salary and valid residency for both men and women, though immigration may still apply extra checks in individual cases.
Can the husband work on a spouse visa?
Yes. He can work once his employer obtains a MOHRE work permit. He doesn't need a new residence visa — the permit attaches to the existing dependent visa.
How much does it cost with Fastlane?
Our service fee is AED 499. Government fees are charged separately and depend on the emirate, visa duration and whether your husband applies from inside or outside the UAE.
