The Rule: Use the Email FTA Has Been Sending Communications To

The EmaraTax account is linked to one specific email address — the one used when you first registered for VAT or Corporate Tax, and to which the FTA sends all official communications. If you remember this email, use the Forgot Password flow to regain access. If you don't remember it at all, you need to write to the FTA to link a new email to your TRN.

Why Accessing EmaraTax Is Critical

The FTA's EmaraTax portal (eservices.tax.gov.ae) is the single gateway for all UAE tax compliance activities. Without access, you cannot:

Losing access to EmaraTax means you are effectively blocked from all FTA compliance activity — making it urgent to recover access before the next filing deadline.

🚨 Missing a Filing Deadline Is Penalised

The FTA does not recognise "I couldn't access my account" as a waiver for late filing. VAT return penalties start at AED 1,000 per missed return. Corporate Tax late filing penalties start at AED 500 per month. Recover access well before your next deadline.

Which Situation Applies to You?

✅ Situation A
You know the email — just forgot the password

Use the Forgot Password flow on EmaraTax. A reset link will be sent to your registered email. Full steps below.

⚠️ Situation B
You don't know or can't access the registered email

You need to write to the FTA to link a new email to your TRN. Use the letter template further below.

Situation A — You Know the Email, Just Forgot the Password

This is the simpler of the two situations. EmaraTax has a standard password reset flow. Follow these steps:

1
Go to the EmaraTax portal Open your browser and go to eservices.tax.gov.ae. This is the official FTA portal — do not use any other site.
2
Click "Forgot Password" On the login screen, click the Forgot Password link below the password field.
3
Enter your registered email address Type the email address linked to your EmaraTax account — the one the FTA has been sending communications to — and click Submit. 💡 Check your inbox for old FTA emails (VAT certificate, return confirmation, registration email) to find which address was used.
4
Check your inbox for the reset email The FTA will send a password reset email to your registered address. Open it and click the activation link inside. Check your spam or junk folder if you don't see it within a few minutes.
5
Use the temporary password to log in Clicking the link will provide you with a temporary password (or direct you to set a new one). Use it to log in to EmaraTax.
6
Set your new permanent password Once logged in with the temporary password, you will be prompted to create a new permanent password. Choose a strong password and save it securely.
💡 Can't Find the Reset Email?

Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. If the email was registered through a company domain (e.g. @companyname.ae) and you no longer have access to that mailbox, you are now in Situation B and need to write to the FTA to link a new email.

Situation B — You Don't Know or Can't Access the Registered Email

This is the more common situation for businesses that have changed ownership, changed staff, or lost access to an old domain. The solution is to write formally to the FTA requesting that a new email address be linked to your TRN.

The FTA's support team handles these requests by email at support@tax.gov.ae. They will verify your identity against their records and update the email linked to your TRN, after which you can use the Forgot Password process above to access the account.

⚠️ What You Need to Include

The FTA will need to verify that you are authorised to make changes to the account. Your request must include your company name, TRN, old email address (if known), the new email address you want to link, and a copy of your Emirates ID. Incomplete requests will be rejected or delayed.

✅ After the FTA Updates Your Email

Once the FTA confirms the email has been updated, go to EmaraTax and use the Forgot Password flow with your new email address. You will receive a reset link and can then set a new password and regain full access to your account.

What to Do Once You're Back In

After recovering access, the first priority is to check your compliance position. Log in to EmaraTax and review:

If Your Company Is Closing

If the reason you needed to recover EmaraTax access is to wind up the company — as in the case of the letter template above — you will need to complete both VAT deregistration and Corporate Tax deregistration through the portal before closing the company. Both require all outstanding returns and payments to be up to date before the FTA will process the deregistration.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must use the email address that was registered when your FTA account was created — the one the FTA has been sending all official communications to (registration confirmation, filing reminders, penalty notices). If you're unsure, search your inboxes for emails from no-reply@tax.gov.ae or support@tax.gov.ae.

Go to eservices.tax.gov.ae, click Forgot Password, enter your registered email and submit. The FTA will email you a reset link. Click it, use the temporary password to log in, then set a new permanent password. Check spam if the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes.

Write a formal request to support@tax.gov.ae with your company name, TRN, old email (if known), new email address to be linked, reason for the change, and a copy of your Emirates ID. The FTA will verify your identity and update the email. Once confirmed, use Forgot Password with the new email to access your account.

If you can log in, you may be able to update your email through account settings. However, if you cannot log in because the original registered email is inaccessible, you must contact the FTA at support@tax.gov.ae with a formal request and identity verification — there is no self-service option for this scenario.

Processing times vary. A complete request with all required documents is typically processed within a few business days. Incomplete requests may take longer or be rejected, requiring resubmission. It's best to send the request well in advance of any filing deadline.

All UAE VAT and Corporate Tax filings, payments, registrations, and deregistrations are processed exclusively through EmaraTax. Without access, you cannot file returns, pay tax, apply for refunds, or initiate deregistration. Missed deadlines attract administrative penalties regardless of the reason for non-compliance.
