If you own a UAE (IFZA) company but are abroad most of the year, nearly the entire company can be maintained remotely through an IFZA Registered Professional Partner — licence and establishment-card renewal, accounting, Corporate Tax filing, basic compliance, and visa & health-insurance renewal support, all signed digitally. The one thing you can’t outsource: keeping your residence visa alive. A standard UAE (including free-zone) visa is automatically cancelled after 180 consecutive days outside the UAE — so you must enter the country at least once every ~6 months, or hold an exempt visa.
Plenty of people own a UAE company but live somewhere else — the business ticks over quietly while they’re abroad most of the year. The good news: almost the entire company can be maintained remotely. The catch: there’s one thing you can’t outsource, and getting it wrong can cancel your residence visa. Let’s cover both.
Nearly everything — through the right partner
With an IFZA Registered Professional Partner acting as your local anchor, the full maintenance stack runs without you being in the country:
- Professional Partner & licence renewal — the licence and establishment card renewed each year on your behalf.
- Accounting & Corporate Tax — for a dormant company with only a few transactions, simplified financials and the annual CT return handle it (a nil or low-activity return still must be filed).
- Basic corporate compliance — statutory records, the annual resolution and UBO updates, kept current.
- Visa & Emirates ID renewal support and even health insurance renewal — coordinated when due.
Signing is digital — UAE Pass, DocuSign and scanned/stamped documents — so approvals happen from wherever you are.
The 180-day rule can cancel your visa
A standard UAE residence visa — including a free-zone visa — is automatically cancelled if you remain outside the UAE for more than 180 consecutive days (about six months), under Federal Decree-Law 29 of 2021. There’s no special free-zone exemption. The count resets every time you re-enter, so a single short visit inside each six-month window keeps the visa alive.
This is the part a consultant can’t do for you — you have to enter the UAE at least once every ~180 days. If you already have or expect a long absence, apply for a re-entry permit (via ICP or GDRFA) before the deadline to protect the visa. And note the exceptions: Golden, Green and Blue visa holders aren’t bound by the 180-day rule — so if you’re abroad a lot, it’s worth checking whether you qualify for one, or confirming your specific visa’s absence allowance.
Setting up remote maintenance
- Appoint a Professional Partner who offers full remote maintenance (NOC from your current agent, then the switch — usually 2–3 working days).
- Agree an itemised scope — one-off transition vs recurring annual services — so you know exactly what’s covered.
- Set up digital access & signing (UAE Pass, portal access, DocuSign) so renewals and filings don’t need you in person.
- Plan your UAE visits around the 180-day rule so your visa stays valid.

Can I run my UAE company remotely if I live abroad?
Yes. With an IFZA Registered Professional Partner as your local anchor, almost the entire company can be maintained remotely — licence and establishment-card renewal, accounting, Corporate Tax filing, basic corporate compliance, and visa and health-insurance renewal support. Signing is done digitally through UAE Pass, DocuSign and scanned, stamped documents, so you don’t need to be in the country.
Will my UAE residence visa be cancelled if I stay abroad too long?
A standard UAE residence visa, including a free-zone visa, is automatically cancelled if you remain outside the UAE for more than 180 consecutive days — about six months — under Federal Decree-Law 29 of 2021. There is no special free-zone exemption. The count resets each time you re-enter, so entering the UAE at least once within each six-month window keeps the visa valid.
What if I have to be outside the UAE for more than six months?
Apply for a re-entry permit through ICP or GDRFA before the 180-day deadline to protect your visa, entering the UAE within the permit’s validity. Golden, Green and Blue visa holders are exempt from the 180-day rule, so if you are abroad frequently it is worth checking whether you qualify for one of those or confirming your specific visa’s absence allowance.
Does my dormant UAE company still need accounting and Corporate Tax filing?
Yes. Even a dormant company with only a few bank transactions must keep accounts and file its Corporate Tax return — a nil or low-activity return is still mandatory once registered. For a low-transaction company, simplified financial statements and the annual return are usually sufficient and can be prepared entirely remotely.
Can a service provider coordinate my visa and health insurance renewals from abroad?
Yes, the administrative coordination — preparing and submitting renewals for your residence visa, Emirates ID and health insurance — can be handled on your behalf when they fall due. The one element that remains yours is physically entering the UAE within the 180-day window (or holding an exempt visa), since that is required to keep the residence visa valid.
