The DSO Approved Auditors Question — What DSO Actually Says
One of the most common questions Fastlane receives from businesses closing a DSO company is: "Does the liquidation report have to come from a DSO-approved auditor, or can I use any auditor?" The answer — directly from DSO's own official communication — is clear and may surprise you:
DSO does provide an approved auditors list — but explicitly states that it is not a restricted list. Companies are free to use any licensed auditor in Dubai, provided the five formatting requirements are met (letterhead, signature, stamp, MoE registration number, addressed to DSO).
DSO vs Other UAE Free Zones — Auditor Flexibility Comparison
This makes DSO meaningfully different from most other major UAE free zones that maintain strict, restricted approved auditor lists. Understanding the distinction helps you make an informed choice:
| Free Zone | Approved Auditor Required? | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| DSO (Dubai Silicon Oasis) | ✓ Any Licensed Auditor | Provides list as reference only — explicitly not restricted. Any MoE-licensed Dubai auditor accepted. |
| IFZA | ✓ Any MoE-Licensed Auditor | No restricted approved list — any UAE MoE-registered auditor accepted. See IFZA audit service. |
| DMCC | ✗ DMCC List Only | Strict restricted list — only auditors on DMCC's own approved list can prepare the report. |
| JAFZA | ✗ JAFZA List Only | Strict restricted list — only auditors on JAFZA's own approved list can prepare the report. |
| Meydan | ✗ Meydan List Only | Meydan-approved auditor required for both annual audit and liquidation reports. |
| DWC | ✗ DWC List Only | DWC-approved auditor required. |
| DWTC | ✗ DWTC List Only | DWTC-approved auditor required. |
| RAKEZ | ✗ RAKEZ List Only | RAKEZ-approved auditor required. |
What the DSO "Approved Auditors List" Actually Means
DSO does circulate a list of approved auditors — and attaches it to liquidation initiation emails. However, as DSO's own communication confirms, this list is a convenience reference, not a restriction. The list represents audit firms that DSO has previously worked with and whose reports they are familiar with — not firms that have exclusive rights to prepare DSO reports.
The practical implication: if you receive a DSO liquidation initiation email with the approved auditors list attached, you do not need to choose from that list. You can use any licensed auditor in Dubai — as long as their report meets DSO's five formatting requirements: addressed to DSO, official letterhead, auditor signature, official stamp, and MoE registration number.
2. Issued on the auditor's official letterhead
3. Signed by the auditor (wet ink)
4. Auditor's official stamp on the report
5. Auditor's MoE registration number on the report
Any UAE-licensed auditor who prepares a report meeting all five requirements will have their report accepted by DSO — regardless of whether they are on DSO's reference list. Fastlane meets all five requirements on every DSO report we prepare. See our detailed guide to DSO liquidation report requirements.
DSO Annual Audit — Same Flexibility for Ongoing Companies
The same flexibility applies to the annual audit report for ongoing DSO companies. DSO requires annual audited financial statements for licence renewal — and again, any UAE-licensed MoE-registered auditor can prepare these. You are not restricted to the reference list for the annual audit submission either.
If your DSO company is an ongoing operating business, Fastlane can prepare your annual audit reports for DSO licence renewal. See our DSO approved auditors and licence renewal guide for full details on the annual audit process.
