Where are you in the IFZA employment visa process?

At the Emirates ID and medical stage of an IFZA employment visa you have already completed licence issuance, employment contract signing, the entry permit (or in-country change of status) and the change-of-status approval. What does the Emirates ID registration form involve?

Emirates ID registration is a typed application to ICP that records your personal details and biometrics in the UAE identity system and triggers production of the Emirates ID card. At the centre the operator enters the visa file number, passport data and sponsor details from the E-Visa form, captures your photograph against a white background, and takes fingerprints if ICP does not already hold them from a previous residency. Three details prevent a second visit. What is the medical fitness test for a UAE residence visa?

The medical fitness test is the standard health screening every UAE residence visa applicant undergoes: a blood test and a chest X-ray at an approved government medical fitness centre, with the result issued as a medical fitness certificate that IFZA uploads to ICP with the visa file. It screens for a defined list of communicable diseases; a “fit” result is required before the residence visa can be issued.

You attend with your original passport and the E-Visa form. Registration, sample collection and the X-ray take 30–45 minutes in total at most centres; the difference between the service tiers is how quickly the laboratory returns the result. In Dubai the centres are run by the Dubai Health Authority; other emirates use the Emirates Health Services network. IFZA accepts a certificate from any approved centre, but the centre must be in the emirate of the visa file, so an IFZA (Dubai) visa uses a Dubai centre.

Two practical notes. Do not attend on the same day as a heavy meal or after alcohol if you can avoid it; results are occasionally flagged for re-test on that basis. And if you have a chronic condition or take regular medication, carry a doctor's note — it is rarely needed, but it saves a repeat visit if a marker is queried.

Should you choose the VIP or the normal medical test?

Choose VIP (AED 700 + VAT, result in about 30 minutes) when you need to upload to IFZA the same day, when your permit validity is close to its end, or when you are leaving the country. Choose normal (AED 386, result within 24 hours) when one day makes no difference; it is around AED 314 cheaper and the test is identical.

How does the process work step by step?

After the visa is issued, what does the IFZA company need on tax and payroll?

Four things: corporate tax registration if not already done (mandatory for every IFZA company, AED 199), VAT registration once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000 (AED 199), a WPS-compliant payroll process from the employee's first salary, and financial statements ready for the IFZA licence renewal. A visa is the point at which a licence becomes an employer, and the compliance obligations widen accordingly.

One point worth stressing for owners who have just sponsored themselves. An IFZA company that pays its owner-employee a salary through WPS is creating a deductible expense for corporate tax purposes, but only if the salary is at arm's length and properly documented; a salary set at an artificial level to reduce taxable income is exactly what the FTA's connected-person rules target.
