Meydan Returned Your Cancellation for a Liquidation Report?

You submitted the Meydan cancellation, and back came an email: application returned, provide the liquidator's report from an authorised auditor. It's a normal step — and yes, you need the report even if you barely traded.

Short answer: Meydan returned your cancellation because it needs the liquidation report — a liquidator's report from an authorised (Meydan-approved) auditor — before it can close the company. It's required regardless of how little you traded; a near-dormant company just gets a short report. You can arrange it via the portal's paid option or appoint your own approved auditor; either way it's an auditor's report. We prepare it from AED 1,499 + VAT. Upload it in your open tasks and return the application to continue.

It catches people off guard. You work through the Meydan online cancellation, submit it, and instead of a cancellation certificate you get an email headed Formation – Cancellation – Request Return, telling you the application has been returned because a document is still pending. The pending item is almost always the liquidation report. Here's what that means and how to clear it.

What happened

Why was my cancellation application returned?

A returned application is not a rejection. Meydan returns it — rather than refusing it — to tell you exactly what's still missing so you can supply it and continue. The note typically reads that Meydan needs the liquidator's report for the company from an authorised auditor, and points you to the open tasks on your portal dashboard to complete the required action and return the application.

So nothing has gone wrong. Your application is sitting in the system, one document short of completion. Supply that document, return the application, and Meydan carries on toward the cancellation certificate.

What it is

What is the Meydan liquidation report?

It's a liquidator's report prepared by an authorised, Meydan-approved auditor, covering the company's final period and confirming its position as it's wound up — that its affairs are in order and it's fit to be cancelled. It's the document Meydan relies on to actually close the company, which is why the cancellation can't finalise without it.

It's worth separating three things that get muddled: your board resolution appoints the liquidator; the liquidation report is what that liquidator then issues; and neither is the same as ordinary annual accounts. The report is a closing document produced specifically for the cancellation.

Low activity

Do I really need it if my company barely traded?

Yes — and this is the question we hear most. The liquidation report is required to cancel the company regardless of how little it did. A company with a handful of invoices, or none at all, isn't exempt; it just ends up with a very short report. The auditor's work on a near-dormant company is quick, and the cost is correspondingly low, but Meydan still needs the report to close the licence.

✓ Low activity = a short report, not an exemptionIf your company was simple and almost dormant, this is good news, not bad: the report is brief and inexpensive to produce. What you can't do is skip it — the cancellation is built around it. So the goal is simply to get a clean, short report prepared quickly and uploaded.
The portal option

"Apply for a liquidation report on the portal" — what's that about?

Meydan's email also mentions that you can apply for a liquidation report on the portal as a paid service. That's a route to having the report arranged through Meydan — but it still has to be a report from an authorised auditor; it isn't a shortcut around the audit itself. The alternative is to appoint your own Meydan-approved auditor to prepare it, which usually gives you more control over timing and cost.

Either way, the deliverable is the same: an authorised auditor's liquidation report that Meydan will accept. The only real choice is who prepares it and on what timeline. [VERIFY the current portal option and its fee with Meydan.]

How to respond

How to respond to the returned application

  1. Get the liquidation report prepared by a Meydan-approved auditor — quick for a low-activity company.
  2. Log back into the Meydan portal and open the returned application in your open tasks.
  3. Upload the report (and anything else the return note lists, such as a bank clearance letter).
  4. Return / resubmit the application so Meydan continues processing.
  5. Await the cancellation certificate — and remember the tax side: file the final return and deregister for Corporate Tax and VAT.

The whole task reduces to supplying the one missing document. For the full picture of the online cancellation from the start, see our Meydan portal walkthrough.

Frequently asked questions

Because a required document is still outstanding — typically the liquidation report. Meydan returns the application (rather than rejecting it) with a note that it needs “the liquidator’s report for the company from an authorised auditor” before it can finalise the cancellation. A returned application is not a refusal; it is Meydan telling you what is missing so you can upload it and return the application to continue. The most common missing item at this stage is exactly this report.

It is a liquidator’s report prepared by an authorised (Meydan-approved) auditor, covering the company’s final period and confirming its position as it is wound up — that its affairs are settled and it is fit to be cancelled. It is the document Meydan relies on to close the company. It is distinct from your board resolution (which appoints the liquidator) and from ordinary annual accounts: it is the closing report the liquidator issues specifically for the cancellation.

Yes. The liquidation report is required to cancel the company regardless of how little it traded — a near-dormant company doesn’t get an exemption, it simply gets a very short report. If there were only a few transactions (or none), the auditor’s work is quick and the report is brief, but Meydan still needs it to close the licence. Low activity reduces the effort and cost; it does not remove the requirement.

Meydan’s message notes you can also apply for a liquidation report on the portal as a paid service. In practice that is a route to having the report arranged — it still has to be a report from an authorised auditor; it isn’t a way to skip the auditor. You are free instead to appoint your own Meydan-approved auditor (such as Fastlane) to prepare it, which usually gives you more control over timing and cost. Either way, the end product is an authorised auditor’s liquidation report. [VERIFY the current portal option and its fee with Meydan.]

Only a Meydan-approved auditor — the report has to come from an authorised firm for Meydan to accept it. This is why the board resolution names an auditor as liquidator: that firm both is appointed in the resolution and issues the report. Fastlane is a Meydan-approved auditor, so we can be appointed as your liquidator and prepare the report Meydan requires.

Get the liquidation report prepared by an approved auditor, then log back into the Meydan portal, open the returned application in your open tasks, upload the report (and anything else the note lists), and return / resubmit the application. Meydan then continues processing toward the cancellation certificate. The key is simply supplying the missing report — the application is already in the system, waiting for it.

Yes. As a Meydan-approved auditor we prepare the liquidation report — quickly for a low-activity company — from AED 1,499 + VAT, which also covers the board resolution where needed. Send us your Meydan trade licence and the details of the year’s activity (however little), and we’ll get the report ready so you can return the application.
