Short answer: visa cancellation is mandatory before you can liquidate a Meydan company — there can be no active visas on the licence when you apply to cancel it. If you try, the Meydan portal blocks the application with a warning that the company has an uncancelled/active visa and tells you to cancel it first. You cancel the partner (investor) visa under Employee → Visa Cancellation, and Meydan charges around AED 820 per visa. The order is always: visas → Establishment Card → licence.
This is the single most common reason a Meydan cancellation stalls on day one. Owners assume closing the company cancels everything with it — licence, card, visa — in one action. It's the other way round: the company can't be closed while it's still sponsoring anyone, so the visas have to come off first. Getting that order right from the start is what keeps a Meydan liquidation moving instead of bouncing back.
The reasonWhy won't Meydan let you cancel the licence with an active visa?
Because a UAE company is the sponsor of every residence visa issued under it. While a visa is active, the company has a live immigration obligation to the person it sponsors — and the authorities will not dissolve an entity that still carries one. Cancelling the licence of a company that still sponsors a visa would leave that person's residency attached to an entity that no longer exists.
So the licence cancellation is gated on the immigration file being clear. Your own partner/investor visa counts here just like an employee's — being the owner doesn't exempt your visa from the rule. Until every visa under the licence is cancelled, the company is still a sponsor, and Meydan will not approve the closure.

How to cancel the partner / investor visa on the Meydan portal
The partner (investor) visa is cancelled from the Employee area of the Meydan portal, not the licence-cancellation screen:
- Open Employee → Visa Cancellation on the Meydan portal.
- Select the partner (investor) visa — the visa issued to you as owner/manager (and repeat for each employee visa the company holds).

- Pay the Meydan visa-cancellation charge — around AED 820 per visa.
- Immigration processes the cancellation and issues the visa-cancellation confirmation, which clears that visa off the licence.

Meydan charges roughly AED 820 per visa cancellation. The important thing is that this is a separate charge — it is not part of the licence-cancellation fee and not part of the Establishment Card charge. A Meydan closure has several government charges stacked next to each other, not one combined bill:

The order of a Meydan closure: visas, then card, then licence
Because each step gates the next, the whole closure has a fixed running order. Getting it wrong is what produces the portal block and the returned applications:
